2017 Bootcamp Update
Our Team and Volunteers have been busy since March running bootcamps on campuses around NZ! (If you’re new to our programme, here’s a post that explains what we mean by “bootcamp”)
Thanks to our awesome campus hosts for making space available for events at University of Auckland, AUT, Yoobee Auckland, University of Waikato, Whitireia in Porirua, Victoria University, Yoobee & Massey in Wellington, the University of Canterbury and Otago!
A quick overview of Bootcamps so far…
51 sessions, 1,000+ unique attendees, 10 campuses
We’ve got a HUGE push on this year to improve student profiles, so have been investing a huge amount of time in providing CV & portfolio support to students through workshops, videos, tips and 1:1 Clinics. Here’s a small sample of the Career Bootcamps & Clinics that have been happening since March:
Tech 101 topics
Our introduction to Tech topics are in full swing, with more advanced topics planned for Trimester 2. Based on feedback from 2016 employers, we’ve got Machine Learning, AWS and more security workshops planned this year, as well as the usual intro to programming languages and technologies that are in demand in industry today. Here’s some highlights of Code & Design topics we’ve covered so far:
Biz 101 topics
New for 2017, our Summer of Biz volunteer team have been busy introducing Wellington students to HR & Marketing topics! They’re off to a great start, with more planned after mid-year break:
Thanks to Caroline & Josh from Alphero who teamed up with us in Hamilton to run concurrent Code & Design sessions at the University of Waikato.
HUGE thanks to our many student champions who helped us out at career expos! Here’s the team in action at the University of Auckland IT career expo.
Thanks to the many industry volunteers like Jen Zajac who have generously given their time & shared wisdom with students at bootcamps. We <3 volunteers!
And a final big THANK YOU to the rest of our volunteer team. Especially the student wranglers who are helping us run bootcamps up & down the country. Some weeks we have 6 events happening, that’s a whole lotta wrangling and we couldn’t do it without our amazing crew!!
