AKL Create Camp – Team Nimbl
Our premium student skills development event for code & design students in the programme is Create Camp, a 2 day API challenge for teams of SoT2015 students. They’re supported by industry mentors, and the challenge this year was to use at least one New Zealand-based API or dataset, and build something cool in a weekend, e.g. a web/mobile app or data visualisation.
Here’s the profile of one of the teams from our Auckland Web Create Camp, held at Spark Ventures on 8th & 9th August 2015:
Team Nimbl: Matt, Lisa, Daniel, Abigail, Trak, Jatin
Lead Mentor: Troy from Spark Ventures
App Name: FlatOut
Team Nimbl built an app to help students with no flatting experience find affordable flat in Auckland.
An easy intuitive tool to find flats in the Auckland region given their budget and living cost estimates.
Datasets: Average mean rent in Auckland by Suburb, Studylink Average Student Living Cost data
API’ss: Trade Me API
This was such a practical learning experience for every member of the team through every aspect involving the System Development Life Cycle, using Agile development practices, and fast paced learning of new software development tools and programming languages.
We are determined to take the skills we have learned from Create Camp and develop our idea further and to improve the service that FlatOut provides!
Special thanks to our Mentor Troy Cornwall for guiding us from start to finish!
Awesome work, team!!
All the photos from the event are up on Facebook, here, and there were a bunch of tweeted updates over the weekend, too.
