Our premium student skills development event for code & design students in the programme is Create Camp, a 2 day API challenge for teams of SoT2015 students. They’re supported by industry mentors, and the challenge this year was to use at least one New Zealand-based API or dataset, and build something cool in a weekend, e.g. a web/mobile app or data visualisation.
Here’s the profile of one of the teams from our Auckland Web Create Camp, held at Spark Ventures on 8th & 9th August 2015:

Team T9: Chang, John, Marcus, Justin, Matthew
Lead Mentor: Marcus from Trade Me
App Name: DirectEvent
Built an app to help expose Aucklanders and visitors to the wonderful events around Auckland, the city of sails.
DirectEvent simplifies event planning. All relevant information is brought together on a single website where users can browse popular and categorized events and know bus times and parking locations around the event. This is important as users spend less time trying to find the what, where and how to get to events, and more time enjoying the event!

Team T9 built a web application which allows users to find their favourite events around Auckland and find out how to get there and back. Users can share events with friends, to truly make it a social event. Event pages show all the information needed for users including where, when and transportation modes. Users do not need to search through numerous websites to get the desired information.
API’s: AT Transport & Eventfinda
We used GitHub and Git for version control.
Programming languages include Javascript, C#.
HTML/CSS for our Front End development and ASP.Net for our server/back end.
Our designer used Adobe Muse to mock web design templates.

Awesome work, team!!
All the photos from the event are up on Facebook, here, and there were a bunch of tweeted updates over the weekend, too.
