WLG Hackfest – Team Wahi Mahi
Our premium student skills development event for code & design students in the programme is Hackfest, a 2 day app-building challenge for teams of SoT2016 students. They’re supported by industry mentors, and the challenge this year was to use an API or dataset, and build something cool in a weekend, e.g. a web/mobile app or data visualisation.
Here’s the profile of one of the teams from our Wellington Web Hackfest, held at Powershop on the 20th & 21st August:
Team Wahi Mahi
Team Wahi Mahi: Timothy, Clint, David, Harman, and Josh
Lead Mentor: Glenn from Xero
App Name: Wahi Mahi
Team Wahi Mahi investigated the issues people face when first moving to New Zealand and trying to chose a new area to live in that will also have good job opportunities for them.
Their platform allows their users to view different regions that best suit their chosen work. Data was aggregated from Trade Me and StatisticsNZ population/ employment to highlight the best job opportunities.
Datasets: Trade Me API, StatisticsNZ Dataset, Node.js, Bootstrap, and Github.
And here are the slides from the Team Wahi Mahi presentation.
Awesome work team!
All the photos from the event are up on Facebook and there were a bunch of tweeted updates over the weekend to.
