Summer of Tech Internship - Getting Back to Work

Getting back to work

After a decadent holiday - possibly involving glazed ham and trifle - getting back into work is hard.

After enjoying some well deserved time off basking in the sun at the beach, chasing down a Mr Whippy truck or gaming at home in front of the fan, how could one possibly be motivated to return to work?

My advice is to dip a toe rather than dive in headfirst. By dipping a toe, I mean easing back into your work routine.

Here's some more unsolicited advice for returning to work after a holiday:

1) Everyone is in the same boat as you; take this opportunity to connect with your team. Make the holiday last a tad longer by asking your teammates about their break. Reminisce about the good times together.

2) When work begins, meet with your team or mentor to revisit how you finished last year and discuss the tasks next-up on your to-do list. This will help jog your memory, focus and get you back into work mode.

3) Be easy on yourself. Allow a few days to readjust to working again. If you have trouble remembering how to do a task, don't be afraid to ask for help.

You will be back in the flow of work in no time.
