ScaleConf Report - Olivia

Thanks to the awesome organisers of ScaleConf New Zealand, 15 students were able to attend industry events in Wellington recently.  Here's a word from one of the recipients, Olivia Carline:Thank you for the sponsored ticket! I had such a wonderful time at the conference and enjoyed learning more about scalability, discussions around automation and networking with Wellington's IT professionals.  There were many highlights of the day but perhaps my favourite was listening to a developer, Sarah Dapul-Weberman, who worked for both Google and NASA explain how she created a transpiler to help move Pinterest's backend from Python to Node.js. The talk was fascinating and very informative. While this was my favourite talk there were many other great speaker events about a range of topics I had never considered which all helped to show different IT paths I could take in the future. Having never seriously considered scalability, attending this conference was very beneficial for me and has allowed me to look at business and entrepreneurship with a new perspective. Here's a photo of myself and Aidan enjoying the conference: Opportunities like these are GOLD for students, and we are hugely grateful to event organisers for supporting diversity tickets in general, and student/unwaged tickets in particular.  If you've got a meetup or conference or workshop coming up, please let us know if you have space for some keen students to attend!
