Recruiting grads and interns right now

Our SoTJobs programme helps NZ employers hiring students and graduates outside of summer, and we are busier than ever before! We’ve filled over 20 grad roles in the past 2 months, and we have another 600+ candidates seeking work right now! If you have an opportunity before summer, suitable for a recent graduate or current student, then we can help. There were some interesting insights in the May 2021 IT Job market report from Absolute IT, they say it's a

remarkably buoyant yet uniquely challenging job market in New Zealand right now.

The overarching trend is a candidate and skill short market, with more organisations than ever investing in growing their IT capability, alongside transformation projects, and innovation. If you read on to page 15, there's data to confirm that having an intern/grad strategy as part of your approach to recruitment and talent management is worth it:

    • 96% of NZ IT employers who hired them, found value in taking on interns or graduates
    • Some of the benefits of hiring interns and grads include equipping the next generation with practical experience, providing leadership opportunities to current employees, and positively impacting culture and productivity
    • Barriers include the cost of facilitating the programme (psst, can we help with that? We’ve streamlined our process and will bring you NZ’s best intern and grad candidates all in one place!) and a lack of appropriate work for interns or grads (we’d love to help with this one, too, our team are happy to chat about kinds of work that might be suitable, and now is a great time to start thinking about what interns could do this summer)

If you're feeling that it's hard to hire tech talent right now, you're not alone. The awesome folks at Cultivate hosted a panel discussion about a strategic approach to talent management during Techweek in May. The panel covered re-skilling, retaining experienced workers, and ways to grow our young and diverse tech talent through intern and graduate programmes. The video is here.
