2018 Bootcamp Update

Our Team and Volunteers have been busy since March running bootcamps on campuses around NZ!  (If you're new to our programme, here's a post that explains what we mean by "bootcamp")Thanks to our awesome campus hosts for making space available for events at University of Auckland, AUT, University of Waikato, Whitireia in Porirua, Victoria University, Yoobee & Massey in Wellington, the University of Canterbury and Otago! We're heading to Toi Ohomai in Tauranga next month, and trying to confirm a date for Massey Palmerston North too. The bulk of activity happens in Wellington & Auckland, where we have the highest concentration of intern employers... and thus industry volunteers to run our events!Here's a quick overview of our 2018 Bootcamp programme (so far...)

But wait, we have more in the pipeline!After the mid year break, we've got about 6 weeks of bootcamp time before recruitment season for summer internships. We'll be focusing on Pasifika student outreach for our Tupu Tek programme, and supporting all students to ensure their profiles are the best they can be, and their job interview preparation is 100% on track! But we still have time for some more technical bootcamps.And we're heading into our "hackathon" season, our premium bootcamps which happen over 1 or 2 days during weekends in August. We have a 1-day event for Wellington design students, hosted at Alphero, a 1 day event for Wellington HR & Marketing students, organised by our Summer of Biz team, and "Create Camp", 2-day events in Auckland & Wellington for software developers and designers where they will build at app over a weekend.

Our student workshops are run by volunteers, for the benefit of students. We are stupendously grateful for everyone's generosity with sharing time, tips and support for students who are gaining skills and connection to industry needs through participating in the educational part of our programmes. The majority of our volunteers are alumni whose careers have started through an internship, and employers who value the skills of interns & graduates. These folks are reaching out and providing practical, free help for our emerging talent. We salute you!Each year, we help over 2,000 students gain skills & experience through these events. Unfortunately, we don't have jobs for everyone, but we do know that the career skills, technical skills and opportunities to meet people working in their chosen industry is extremely valuable, even if candidates are not successful landing internships in our programme.
