About us Our story

Summer of Tech empowers New Zealand’s diverse tech candidates to bridge the gap between learning and earning, by making it easy and attractive for New Zealand employers to hire them.

The future of Aotearoa’s technology industry is in the hands of the next generation.

We connect employers with top local students and graduates for paid work experience and graduate jobs.

We help organisations in Aotearoa find, grow and employ students and graduates to get hands on experience, do meaningful work, and become work-ready for the NZ tech industry.

We help candidates build in-demand skills and connect with exciting, supportive and growth focused local employers to kick start their careers.

We are an industry-led initiative meeting the real needs of students and employers looking for growth.

  • 2006

Originally Summer of Code, we were founded by a group of startups in Wellington’s Creative HQ business incubator in 2006. 7 startups hired 14 keen students to work on web and software development projects for the summer.

  • 2010-2014

We changed our name to Summer of Tech in 2010 to reflect the evolving nature of the students and employers we work with. We launched our bootcamp and internship programme in Auckland in 2014.

  • Today

We bridge the gap between learning and earning for students and graduates passionate about kick starting tech careers in Aotearoa. We empower a talented community of industry volunteers to share their experience and help up-skill our future tech talent.
