What the heck is this checklist thing?
Summer of Tech's aspiration is to empower New Zealand’s diverse tech students to bridge the gap between learning and earning, by making it easy and attractive for New Zealand employers to hire them. This checklist is just one of the many ways we are keen to help you hire interns and graduates. Each month we will add your "need to know" key actions so you can plan and keep on top of the process. As we go we will add tips and tricks for that step. July Checklist
We're past the shortest day of the year, so it's full speed ahead to SUMMER internships! Now is a great time to plan your recruitment process, and don't forget to list your role(s) and if you want to diversify your candidate pool, now's a great time to get proactive with searching!
Step 5: Plan for an awesome recruitment season, don't forget to register for our Meet & Greet event(s) in September. Contact our team if you are up to step 5 but haven't received your invitation yet!
Step 4: Search for candidates, and review applications as they come in. Take a moment to consider how inclusive your process is, tips for improving diversity here.
Step 3: List your role(s)! We suggest you list summer internships before the end of July if possible, to get maximum exposure.
Step 2: Set up or update your organisation profile. Get some tips here.

Ensure you're ready to welcome interns from all walks of life.
Most employers tell us that hiring interns is a great way to diversify their team, and not just in terms of diverse levels of experience! Hiring interns can be an opportunity to proactively balance skills, demographics, life perspectives and support people into tech careers from underrepresented groups. Aaron Hodder gave a talk in Wellington last week about inclusive collaboration highlighting great ways to work with neurodiverse people. We can't find a recording of that talk, but here's a video from his AgileNZ 2017 keynote.
