How To: Employer Pitch
Attracting top talent to your organisation is hard, especially with limited opportunities to connect in person. One way to help get your message to candidates is to make a short “employer pitch” video.
If you want to attract tech interns and grads to consider applying for your roles, it will take more than posting a job ad and waiting for them to apply. There are fewer candidates and more options than ever for most students and graduates. One way to stand out from the crowd is to craft your “pitch”. We recommend a short video to help candidates understand the opportunity you’re offering.
They probably haven’t had the headspace to consider applying for internship and grad roles this year. Candidates may be especially unsure if your employment brand isn’t well known or if you haven’t been able to connect this year.
Here’s why you should consider making a pitch video:
To increase exposure and attention, your short “about us” video (under 3 minutes!) will connect with candidates and tell them why they should work for you.
It doesn’t have to be professional, time-consuming or expensive. Write down some talking points and record some conversations on a mobile phone. Throw in a virtual office tour, add your logo, and you’re done. Upload it to an online video platform. An authentic and accessible message will increase awareness of your employment brand.
Have your people (especially those early in their career) talk about their experience; this will be relatable to student/grad candidates.
Be clear about what you’re looking for, what you’re offering and what’s in it for them. Set expectations upfront. Be clear about eligibility and what you want to see from candidates. This will help the quality and focus of applications.
