Bootcamp Highlights - Interview Skills Bootcamp
Guest Blog by Tabitha ByrneNot many people can honestly say they enjoy job interviews, and unfortunately, for those of us who don't, they’re often a significant part of the job hiring process.Luckily enough, Ruth knows a thing or two about how to do well in them and came to Vic to share some tips with us. Whether you get invited to speed interviews after Meet and Greet, or manage to land yourself an interview through other means, one of the most important things to do is make sure you are well prepared in advance. Know who you are meeting with, when, and where, and make sure you turn up five minutes early (no more than five!). Have some questions to ask them. The interviewer should ask you at the end of your interview, if you have any questions for them. You don’t want to say no! Think of some in advance and try to make sure they aren’t yes/no ones, you want to get them talking and discussing. If it isn’t a speed interview you may need to know some ice breakers, so think of some good ones and practice asking them. Look the part, try and dress one level higher than the employees, and remember, if you walk into reception and feel overdressed, just take your jacket off! Finally, don’t forget to be yourself, try and be as comfortable as possible, and tell them your story so they can get a bit of an understanding on the type of person you are. Not only are job interviews a chance for a company to decide if they want to hire you, it's your chance to decide if they are the sort of company you want to work for!For anyone wanting a more detailed run through on just what was covered in this bootcamp, the slides for it can be found here: https://www.slideshare.net/secret/DfQrKxoVNWP9nB.
