Summer of Tech’s newest addition - Katrina Mearns

“I’m here to support you as an Employer.”

Meet the newest team member of Summer of Tech:

Hi, my name is Katrina (Treen) Mearns. I have recently joined the wonderful Summer of Tech team as their Employer Champion.

Before this, I was a Digital Capability/People Leader at BNZ. I was part of an incredibly focused team who were building the right culture for people to flourish. My main priority was enabling our people to do the best work in an awesome environment. To give them all the opportunities to grow while ensuring they have all the tools and support needed to do their job. I absolutely loved my 4 years immersed in this; however, at the end of 2021, I decided it was time for a change, and here I am.

I am so excited about the opportunity to support the Summer of Tech team in continuing to build a platform for our employers. In this one-stop-shop, you go to find everything you need, ask questions and seek clarification along the way.

We want this to be the ultimate experience for our students. It starts with supporting the employers who are incredibly committed to the internship/graduate programme.

On a side note, I have had the privilege of being part of the Summer of Tech programme within BNZ. We were incredibly fortunate to have a leadership team that believes wholeheartedly in the internship programme. Students are regarded as gold, a potential source of fresh ideas and innovation. They bring renewed vigour, energy, and loyalty to our teams. Our future stars of the tech world. Why wouldn’t you want them as part of your team?

Last year I headed up the programme within BNZ and now have so many ideas to help continue to make the experience even better. Not only for employers but also for the students.

I am really looking forward to working alongside the team, who have the same passion, enthusiasm, and skills to make 2022 the best year ever for everyone.

Kia kaha.
