Candidates are READY

Summer of Tech community impact stats about bootcamps

As we get ready for our mid-year recruitment season, let's look under the Summer of Tech "hood". Our team and more than 80 industry volunteers have been hard at work supporting students and recent grads to get ready to join Aotearoa's tech industry.

A massive shout out to our volunteers for helping us make an impact and investment in Aotearoa's future tech talent! Here's what one of our volunteers said after a recent CV review event:

"Being a volunteer is very rewarding and not only do you help the students you also learn a lot about yourself - how to engage with people you don't know, how to give constructive feedback and how to help improve student's job prospects."

Richard Drake - Cyber Security Account Manager and Summer of Tech Industry Mentor

The Summer of Tech volunteer community proactively invests in the next generation of Aotearoa's tech superstars.

417 unique students and graduates from across Aotearoa have attended 35 bootcamps this year, representing 52.5 hours of free, industry-led bootcamps to prepare candidates entering the tech industry.

We have had the support of more than 80 industry volunteers and mentors across these topics:

  • Core skills Interview Skills 101, Self Awareness and Improved Performance, and Accelerate Your Learning

  • Code skills Cloud Platforms 101, More than Dev, Digital Accessibility and Connecting Code to Customer

  • Design skills Design Portfolio and Designer/Developer Collaboration

  • Office hour chats with Super Mentors, providing candidates unbiased career advice to help them on their career journey

Showcasing our work-ready junior tech candidates.

This year we're investing much time and resources into how candidates present themselves. We have a CV builder pack and have hosted four online CV review clinics where students get 1:1 feedback from our industry volunteers.

These sessions were attended by more than 150 students and recent graduates with the help of 50 industry volunteers!

Here's what some of our CV reviewers had to say:

"The students are always great, personable and clearly put effort into their CVs." Angelica Legaspi - Product Development Engineer and Summer of Tech Industry Mentor

"It's really important that we [recruiters/industry representatives] provide more of these types of forums to students to review and provide feedback so they are future-ready for internship/work placement. It's great to see SoT are taking the lead on this"

Swastika Singh - Recruitment Lead and Summer of Tech Industry Mentor
